Located off the coast of western Istria are several groups of islands, but none are as fascinating as the Brijuni group. National park Brijuni archipelago consists of 14 islands and islets, and is the largest and most indented of them all.

What makes National park Brijuni truly special is its rich cultural and historical heritage. Archaeological sites dating back to the Bronze Age can be found here, along with permanent and temporary exhibitions and a remarkable museum collection. The tumultuous history of the islands has left many traces which bring us back to past times.
Aside from its cultural heritage, Brijuni is also known for its abundant flora and fauna. The islands are home to more than 400 plant species, and numerous autochthonous and allochthonous species comprise the islands’ fauna. Visitors to the Brijuni National Park can experience nature in its purest form.

Interestingly, Brijuni was once ruled by dinosaurs during the Mesozoic Era. More than 200 dinosaur footprints have been discovered at four sites on Veliki Brijun. These magnificent and terrible reptiles roamed the Earth and left their mark on Brijuni forever.
In summary, the Brijuni group of islands is a remarkable destination that offers visitors a unique blend of cultural heritage, natural beauty, and even prehistoric history. It’s truly a must-visit location for anyone traveling to Istria.
